BILL JOHNSON - USA

CALIFORNIA

CJ Hobgood

Bill Johnson, was raised in Cocoa Beach alongside some of the best surfers in the world. With many amateur surfing titles under his belt, at the age of 18 he earned the # 1 seed position on the World Champion U.S. team in 1984. After winning the US title in 86’, he turned Pro. But, after a few short years as a pro, he started a family as well as a shaping career.

Bill started shaping for Quiet Flight surfboards in 1991 and soon started a new brand with Quiet Flight owner Ed Leasure; called Extreme in 1993.

In 1996 Bill moved to San Diego, CA and worked for Rusty Surfboards for 8 years: and after hand shaping CJ Hobgood’s world title quiver in 2001 and many boards for high profile surfers, in 2004 he started a new brand called Teqoph (Take off). Within a few short years, Bill has become one of the most recognized names in the surfing world after designing a patent pending tail “the Stealth” accompanied by a quad fin set up. Bill’s design and shape made history when CJ Hobgood won a 4 star WQS event at Lower Trestles. Bill now resides in North County San Diego, and builds boards out of his 2300 sq. ft. factory in Oceanside, CA.  You can see some of his work online at shaper's bay on surfline.com and at www.teqophsurfboards.com.
